Soumaya Ganoushi

Got a little extra time this morning so clicked on Aljazeera.net after boring with the NYT, google news, and the products of my own mind. (A madblog angel bestowed mad credits on me last night, so I'm in a temporary reprieve from the four digit fandango - thanks Babs!)

There is a fascinating article on their homepage regarding the replacement of Zarqawi in Iraq. Seems like the resistance is consolidating.

Then there is this editorial by Soumaya Ganoushi. I'd say she's a voice we should all hear.

Aside from evags who willfully live with an understanding of the world that should bore a twelve year old, nothing gets me more worked up than these right wing bloggers who yap on and on about 'liberals' when they don't have a fucking clue what the movement is all about. I mean, come on, how credulous do you have to be to let someone like Ann Coulter or Bill O'Reilly explain the theory of liberalism? That's like asking a meth cook about the potential long term side effects of methamphetamine use. 'Oh, you say it's all good and the media be just lying about meth? Well, sell me an eightball then!'

This woman's editorial really seems to capture, from a muslim's perspective, what I think remains the major choices facing liberalism today. Nice to see the discussion is taking place somewhere.

Oh, and one final question to the righties who blog: How many times do you think you've mentioned Bill Clinton's blowjob in your blogging career? Is it once a day? Three times a week? Talk about oral fixation. . .

Comments:
Get'em Aurelius!! LMAO!! It's either the BJ's or cigars.

I'm proud to be liberal!!!!

Oddly enough, right wingers think that folks like YOU don't understand THEM... so maybe everyone should throw fewer insults until we all understand each other?

you notice how when you ask a republican about how fucked up the bush administration is they go, yeah, well your president gave blow jobs in the white house...judas priest..the guys been out of office 5 years and that's the best they can come up with?...least she didnt die from the blow job..

some of my favorite quotes:
Of all the varieties of virtues, liberalism is the most beloved...aristotle

Liberalism is the supreme form of generosity;it is the right which the majority concedes to minorities and hence it is the noblest cry that has ever resounded on this planet..jose ortega

a conservative government is an organized hypocrisy.benjamin disrali

Conservatives feel they deserve everything they've stolen..mort sahl

i have a bunch more...

Well, it's certainly starting to look like people, even those the most impaired by blindnes, are slowly beginning to see the light. However, in practical terms, what's the difference since the Democrats don't seem to have too much better personel to offer? Or maybe it's just that new sobs are at least our sobs.

To eurotrash:

One of the biggest problems in America is we have a conservative party, and a democratic party that contains a few liberals. Hell, even Clinton is quoted in his biography as referring to himself as an 'Eisenhower Republican.' Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Hilary Clinton - I see all of these as folks who want to say the bare minimum to appease the liberal left; then get in power and just tilt the sluice of government slightly over to the interest groups that fund them. Since until the K Street project most groups were funding each party about the same, our political life on the federal level fucking sucked.

There is a movement in this country - particularily growing via radio personalities such as Al Franken and Ed Shultz - that wants a democratic party that gets back to its roots and starts to work on some issuses like the environment and socialized healthcare. The strong challenge Joe Leiberman's facing represents some of that movement.

I'm a green party member myself, I thought the democrats were worthless all through bubba's administration.
Talk the talk, but don't walk the walk ain't good enough for me.

I did vote for Kerry - cuz I saw Bush as being an unbelievable threat to this country and everyone elses - but I don't think I'll support the lesser of two evils again.

And to Omni: we liberals didn't start the war of insults, but I'm damn committed to being on the side that finishes it.
