Thoughts on Blog Mad

Last night 'bout the hour of the jackel, my sleep-partner poked her head into my room to ask me why I was still (semi) active.

"I've got to view more mad blog sites," I mumbled, "I'm down under ten credits again. . ."

"Fuck that fucking shit," she replied, "All you ever fucking do is sit there and fucking blog. Since you signed onto that site your up til three every night . . . we never just sit around and talk anymore."

"Baby," I knew it was late, so I tried to be patient, "If I expect others to read my blog, I have to read theirs. If you really want to tell me about your day at work, why don't you get your own madblog - then I'll glance at it for 25 seconds, click on the little 'thumbs up' and then move on."

Will blogging cost Aurelius his longest stable relationship to date? Will his woman realize that she doesn't own him, that his soul belongs to the world? Or will blogmad reconfigure their ratio to something less brutal than 1:1?

In theory, I think the 1:1 concept makes a lot of sense. Like the political correctness movement, however, it might not be the right fit for every single member of the blogosphere. Some folks love to surf the blogs of the internet, perhaps they have a take on employment that has them sitting at a computer all day long, and blogmad makes a great structure for viewing a wide variety of folks' stuff. Others prefer to take a fair amount of time to plan out each of their posting (maybe even spellcheck them - not me, when I give it to ya, I give it to ya raw.) These are the folks who include nicely cropped photos, or back up thier political statements with hyperlinks to reference sources. Just like in one's sex life, in blog life diversity makes things interesting.

I'm occupying a poorly defensible middle-ground. I often spend upwards of ninety minutes on a single posting. I can really type good, I'm just often paused at the end of a phrase waiting for the right combination of words to fall like tetris in me brain. I'd say that also contributes to the unpredictable style I am so infamous for. So if I get home from work at 7, completely ignore my woman and my cat, spend two hours blowing off steam on this site, decide that I don't need to eat three meals a day, then spend another two hours surfing blogmad - 1 cred every 25 seconds, that's roughly sixty creds an hour if I don't get distracted (and I love to get distracted) - now it's after midnight and I'm still barely breaking even on madblog.

My cat is already starting to ignore me. If I wasn't so damn ruggedly handsome, I'd worry about Cindy stepping out on me.

Plus, I don't like the way I'm interacting with folks' blogs either. I'd like for folks to visit this site, read a bit, have a profound spiritual experience where they realize that dogmatic constructs are largely used to control/exploit populations; the true terrors and joys of consciousness transcend the simplified old-fashioned religions, bookmark me and move on. Lately, when I've been surfing all I'm doing is scanning their site until the counter runs down, then clicking away. I rarely have time for a rapidly typed comment, and I sure as hell ain't gonna click on an advertisement and lose my one credit.

. . .

Comments:
"...dogmatic constructs are largely used to control/exploit populations; the true terrors and joys of consciousness transcend the simplified old-fashioned religions..." thems big word for a BM surfer...wheres the pron:)

I think if I weren't addicted to Promisance and buying credits for extra turns I would rarely run low on credits.

If I can spend a good 2-3 hours once a week, then the rest of the time I can coast through on less than an hour a day (unless, again, I'm wasting my credits). I find that it's not too difficult to comment when something catches my eye, since it's not the click-through, credit gathering traffic that's going to generate comments or a real readership, it's the back and forth of comments left when a post sparks a thought that needs to be shared.

One of the things I've noticed is that after an hour or blog surfing, the repeats start to come. Even within that first initial hour there will always been a large number of blogs that haven't been updated since the last time I saw them. Frankly, unless a blog really makes an impression, I'm not likely to look past the first page, regardless of how many times it comes up.

This gives me a chance to pull up the more interesting blogs (or posts) in a separate tab to respond. While it may take me a lot longer to write out a comment (because I'm looking for new blogs or posts to at least skim in that 25 seconds), the comments do eventually get made.

The real question here is whether you're looking for actual readers and quality comments (which requires more time and effort spent commenting) or if you're just looking for traffic hits. Personally, I don't think the hits are worth it if they're not bothering to actually read what's being said.

And, in some way helping to make my point, while I do surf BlogMad, I actually got here through a comment you made on another blog. Whatever that's worth ;)

Wow, and I thought I just said, "Keeping up with credits? That's stupid. Go to bed."

Please help me understand this: you have deemed that what you have to say to strangers is so important that you are willing to sacrifice a relationship and sleep over it?

Btw, the word 'atheist' is still spelled wrong in your 'Raving Atheist' permalink.

PS. Didn't mean to sound harsh. Keep up the good work!

Hello:

I know you don't like to leave comments on other people's BLOGs, but I thought you might like a chance to drop by my quasi-Catholic-ish BLOG and leave a remark. I think things are more interesting when there is diversity of opinion.

Peace,

P. Del Ricci - Dark Glass

Sorry I got you addicted too. I've learned to multi-task and get credits at the same time. I've seen so many of the same blogs than when one shows up that I've seen 50 times before, I switch over and catch up on an email or pay an on-line bill and swtich back to click the timer thing over on Blog Mad every so often. I'm laughing at you the entire time I'm writing this. I can't help it. My cats are starting to hate me too! Hey, wait... you are costing me credits while I sit here and type this becaue I came in through Blog Mad, which cost you a credit and earned me one.

PS... Add the stupid banners at the bottom, then when people view your blog, you earn credits too. It's not a 1:1 ratio, but hey might as well get the freebies.

Now buy your wife some flowers and get back to storing up credits!!! I'm still laughing.

you have to email or comment on babs blog and ask her how to keep that from happening..there is a way for you to get credits and not lose any..but im a dumb shit and dont know how..so she does it for me..so ask her..she's the smartest person i know about that place..she rules..ask her..go ahead...really..ask her..

Okay, I didn't come through Blog Mad this time and cost you a precious credit, but I had to give you a thumbs up earlier. People need to read your stuff. It's brilliant.

Anyway, go into BM (hehhehee), sorry... Beavis and Butthead flashback there. On the sidebar under credits, click on Banners(Earn). An HTML code will come up. Put that in the footer of you blogger template, twice at least. It doesn't earn a lot of credits, but you'll get some free ones that way.

Hey, there's the goddess above me. She's addicted too.

Promisance is evil!

LOL Babs got me addicted too. I am not so much addicted to credits because I tend to do a lot of reading, if it is a new post now. It gets to be a lot of repeat posts. Have fun. God Bless.

I was over at Bab's and read her comment on you, and decided to come see whar a wreck Blogmad has made of your life :D She invited me to join it but I said thanks but no thanks. I said I was crazy enough. When I visit somebody's blog I belive they are due the curtesy of a few minutes to look around, and read a little of the post before they say "thumbs up" or "thumbs down". I would be a very bad person for Blogmad because I havn't seen arywhere where you can change your credits into money (which we all need) I spend most of the day and night here at this computer (well, I do get up and move around a little!) I do some posting, some visiting and then I head to parts unknown on the web....don't let the bs get you down..my husband hates the computer too and my kitty, so long as you keep food in her dish that's all she wants....Linda

I feel the same way when I am running low on Blog Mad credits. One feature they have that I do like is the allocation limit. You can set it, so that you always have a certain number of credits saved up. That way I know if I surf, I'll get the same number of views (minues the credits they take when someone ranks you) - but if I don't surf - I have credits if I need them. (Like when I was pimping a site yesterday).

If you need more information on this - just let me know. Viewing sites for credits, while fun, isn't something to lose precious sleep or a great relationship over.

Take care

Suzanne
